Patna: Metro services in Patna are set to expand further, with operations expected to extend from ISBT (Bairiya bus terminal) to Malahi Pakri by the end of March. The development comes after a high-level review meeting chaired by deputy chief minister and urban development minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Wednesday.
Officials said preparations for launching metro services on the new stretch are almost complete. A successful trial run has already been conducted, and authorities are now awaiting final approvals and the official green signal before starting regular operations on the route.
At present, metro services in Patna run on a limited stretch between ISBT and Bhootnath station. Once the extension to Malahi Pakri becomes operational, connectivity between the city’s eastern and southern areas is expected to improve significantly, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
During the review meeting, officials informed the deputy chief minister that civil works are progressing according to schedule and most land transfer issues related to the project have been resolved. Principal secretary of the urban development department Vinay Kumar and Patna Metro managing director Sandeep Kumar R Pudukkalakatty were also present at the meeting.
Vijay Kumar Sinha directed officials to complete tunnelling and finishing work within the stipulated timeframe. Engineers from the Patna Metro project and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation are currently working on final-stage finishing to ensure a world-class experience for passengers when the new section opens.
Officials described the start of operations up to Malahi Pakri as a major milestone for Patna Metro’s Corridor-2. The expansion is also expected to accelerate work on other sections of the project, marking another step towards strengthening modern urban transport in the Bihar capital.
