Patna: A case has been registered against two private schools in Patna for allegedly misleading parents and students by falsely claiming affiliation with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The FIR was filed at Gardanibagh Police Station following a complaint from the board’s regional office after an investigation into the matter.
According to the complaint, allegations were made against St. Paul’s International School Sadhanapuri and St. Paul’s International High School Police Colony. After receiving the complaint, CBSE constituted a committee that conducted a surprise inspection of both institutions.
During the inspection, officials found several billboards and advertisements at the schools displaying the words “CBSE, Delhi”, creating the impression that the institutions were affiliated with the board. However, records maintained by CBSE showed that neither school had been granted official affiliation.
The complaint also alleged that students from classes 9 to 12 studying at the schools were being registered for board examinations through another CBSE-affiliated institution. Authorities said this arrangement gave parents and students the impression that the schools themselves were recognised by the board.
Investigators further reported that school representatives refused to provide necessary documents, records and details of students during the inspection and did not cooperate with the inquiry.
Officials said the case highlights a wider issue in Bihar, where some private institutions allegedly operate by misleading parents about their affiliation status. In some cases, schools reportedly display signboards with the phrase “CBSE Affiliated” prominently while including the words “to be” in small letters, suggesting affiliation that has not actually been granted.
Authorities said such schools often enrol students and later register them for board examinations through other affiliated institutions, allowing them to continue operating without official recognition.
Education officials said the registration of an FIR in this case marks one of the first instances of legal action against such practices. They urged parents to verify a school’s affiliation directly through the official website of the Central Board of Secondary Education before enrolling their children.
