Patna: More than 1,188 women secured employment on the opening day of a two-day women’s mega job fair organised by the Women and Child Development Corporation under the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Bihar. The event, which began on March 16 at Gyan Bhawan, brought together around 50 national and multinational companies offering job opportunities across a wide range of sectors.
Officials said nearly 5,500 women from across Bihar, including remote and rural districts, travelled to Patna to participate in the fair. The large turnout included educated unemployed women, candidates who had undergone skill development training, and participants from diverse social and economic backgrounds. Organisers described the atmosphere at the venue as energetic and encouraging, with participants eager to explore new employment opportunities.
The recruitment process was conducted in a structured manner with separate counters for registration, counselling, interviews and final selection. After completing registration, candidates received career counselling based on their qualifications and interests before attending on-the-spot interviews conducted by participating companies. Many candidates who successfully cleared the interviews were issued offer letters at the venue, enabling them to secure employment immediately.
The highest number of appointments were recorded in the electronics, textile and healthcare sectors, though opportunities were also available in retail, hospitality, IT and BPO services, manufacturing and security services. Organisers noted that women also showed strong participation in several sectors traditionally dominated by men, reflecting growing confidence and expanding career choices.
Companies participating in the job fair included Blinkit, Flipkart, Bajaj Auto, Muthoot Finance, SBI Life Insurance, Croma, Ather Energy, Zudio, Medimix, JSW Steel, TVS Motor Company, ITC Limited, Westside, Airtel, Apollo Hospitals and Yokohama Rubber Company, among others.
During a press briefing, Bandana Preyashi, secretary of the Social Welfare Department, and Yogesh Kumar Sagar, joint secretary of the department, said the initiative aimed to promote women’s economic empowerment and increase their participation in the workforce. The event was also attended by Kaushal Kumar, secretary of the Youth, Employment and Skill Development Department, along with other senior officials.
The job fair will continue on March 17 from 9am to 4pm, with organisers encouraging more women to attend and explore employment opportunities offered by participating companies.
