Patna: Petroleum companies in Bihar have issued strict new directives regarding LPG connections, instructing gas agencies not to reinstate connections that have remained dormant for extended periods. Consumers with inactive accounts will now be required to apply for new connections if they wish to resume gas services.
Officials said the move comes after repeated instances of long-unused connections complicating record-keeping and distribution management. “Agencies have been clearly instructed not to accept any requests for the reactivation of dormant connections,” a senior official said.
In addition to halting reactivations, the process for issuing new LPG connections has been temporarily suspended. Gas agencies are expected to inform consumers about these changes to prevent confusion, officials added.
Experts argue that the decision could improve transparency within the LPG distribution system, helping authorities identify genuine consumers. However, the policy is likely to inconvenience individuals whose connections have remained inactive for legitimate reasons.
