Patna: President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Rajgir on March 31, where she will attend the convocation ceremony of Nalanda University as the chief guest, in what will be her first visit to the institution since assuming office.
According to the programme, the president will arrive at the university campus and address students during the convocation ceremony. She is expected to speak on education and future opportunities for young graduates. During the event, gold medals and other awards will be presented to meritorious students from India and abroad.
University officials said extensive preparations are under way to host the ceremony, with arrangements being made for guest reception, seating and logistics. Special provisions have also been put in place for academicians and dignitaries travelling from across the country and overseas.
Following the convocation, the president is scheduled to visit the ancient ruins of Nalanda, a UNESCO world heritage site and a symbol of India’s historic legacy of higher learning. Officials will brief her on the historical and cultural significance of the site during the visit.
Security has been tightened across Rajgir and surrounding areas ahead of the high-profile visit. Police personnel are being deployed at key locations to ensure smooth conduct of the programme.
