Patna: The Bihar government has announced strict measures to curb illegal hoarding and black marketing of cooking gas cylinders, following a high-level review of the state’s supply chain chaired by the Chief Secretary.
The meeting, attended by senior officials including the State Director General of Police, all district magistrates and superintendents of police, and representatives from major oil and gas companies, focused on addressing distribution bottlenecks and pending grievances.
Abhay Singh, Secretary of the Food and Consumer Protection Department, presented the current status of cylinder distribution, highlighting backlogs and sharing suggestions from district officials on improving the efficiency of supply.

In response, the Chief Secretary issued several directives aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability. Control rooms in every district are to remain fully operational to handle public complaints, while district public relations officers are instructed to hold daily press briefings at 3 pm to provide accurate updates and counter misinformation.
Border districts will see intensive, continuous raids targeting illegal hoarding, with swift legal action promised against offenders. The government reiterated that normal gas supplies are being maintained and urged the public to ignore rumours or misleading reports about shortages.
