Patna: Bihar’s rural works minister, Ashok Choudhary, has begun teaching as an assistant professor at A.N. College, taking his first Political Science class on Wednesday and describing the moment as the fulfilment of his father’s long-held ambition.
Arriving on campus in Patna, Choudhary addressed students in what he later called the start of a “new journey”. In a post on social media, he said teaching would allow him to present Political Science not just as an academic discipline but as a way to understand democracy, society and everyday life.

Choudhary, a senior leader of the Janata Dal (United) and a close associate of chief minister Nitish Kumar, was appointed to the post last month after receiving clearance from the Bihar State University Service Commission and approval from the state’s education department.
The appointment traces back to a recruitment process announced in 2020, when applications were invited for assistant professor posts across state colleges. After delays, results were declared in 2025, with 274 candidates selected, including Choudhary.
He formally joined the college in February this year in the presence of Upendra Prasad Singh, vice-chancellor of Patliputra University, and Shashi Pratap Shahi.
Choudhary is expected to continue in his ministerial role while teaching, setting aside time for classes. He has said he will not draw a salary for his academic work.
