Patna: Citizens in Bihar can now apply for domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections from the comfort of their homes, as the state streamlines the process to promote clean, safe, and eco-friendly energy. The move is aimed at reducing dependence on traditional gas cylinders while ensuring a continuous supply of gas.
Domestic PNG connections are being offered by various City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies across the state: GAIL in Patna, HPCL in Banka, Think Gas in Begusarai, IOAGPL in Gaya and Nalanda, BPCL in Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Madhubani, West Champaran, East Champaran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Siwan, and Supaul, and IOCL in the remaining districts. Residents can register online free of cost through the official website of the CGD company operating in their district.
Applicants must upload proof of identity and address in the prescribed format. Once verified, a unique Business Partner (BP) number is issued, which will be required for all future services and billing.
For a PNG connection, consumers can pay a one-time refundable security deposit of Rs 4,500, or opt for an alternative scheme with a Rs 500 refundable deposit and a daily rental of Rs 1, which can later be converted into the full payment plan.
Following registration, a technical survey assesses the feasibility of the connection. Approved connections see the external network extended via MDPE pipelines, with gas delivered to homes through GI or copper piping. Installation of meters, regulators, piping, and leak tests is completed alongside safety checks. Existing LPG stoves are adapted for PNG usage, and gas supply is activated only after a final inspection to ensure compliance with safety standards.
The rollout of PNG connections is dependent on the expansion of CGD networks in specific areas. Residents seeking more information are advised to contact the relevant CGD company operating in their district.
