New Delhi: WhatsApp has announced a series of new features designed to enhance user experience, making chats easier to manage, more interactive and better organised.
The updates, which will be rolled out gradually, focus on improving storage management, enabling smoother device transitions and introducing artificial intelligence-powered tools.
One of the key additions is a new storage management feature. Users can now access a “Manage Storage” option directly within individual chats, allowing them to identify and delete large files such as photos and videos without removing entire conversations. An option to clear only media files while preserving chat history has also been introduced.
The platform has also simplified cross-platform chat transfers, enabling users to move chats, media and data seamlessly between iOS and Android devices in just a few steps. This feature is expected to benefit users who frequently switch phones.
In a move aimed at improving convenience, WhatsApp will now allow iOS users to operate two accounts on the same device — a feature previously available on Android. This will make it easier to separate personal and professional communication.
The company has also introduced “smart stickers”, which suggest relevant stickers based on emojis typed by users. This allows for quicker and more expressive responses within chats.
Additionally, a new AI-powered photo editing tool developed by Meta has been integrated into the app. Users can edit images directly within chats, including removing or changing backgrounds and applying creative styles. However, the feature is expected to be rolled out in phases and may not be immediately available to all users.
WhatsApp has also enhanced its AI writing assistance, enabling it to suggest responses based on previous conversations while maintaining user privacy.
The company said these updates are part of its ongoing efforts to introduce practical improvements that make daily communication more efficient and engaging.
