Patna: The Bihar government has launched a new policy aimed at expanding international air connectivity from the state, offering financial incentives to airlines to operate flights on new overseas routes.
Under the “destination policy”, the state aims to encourage airlines to introduce international services from Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna and Gaya International Airport.
Officials said the tendering process for airlines began on March 25, with a pre-bid meeting scheduled for April 7 and the deadline for applications set for April 15.
In the initial phase, the government is targeting routes connecting Patna to Kathmandu, and Gaya to destinations including Kathmandu, Sharjah, Bangkok, Colombo and Singapore.
The policy is intended to strengthen connectivity, support tourism and facilitate economic growth by linking Bihar more directly with international markets.

Authorities said participating airlines must hold accreditation from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Officials in the civil aviation department said work on implementing the policy has already begun, with expectations that new routes could be operational following the completion of the bidding process.
The move comes as part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and connectivity in Bihar, with the government seeking to position the state as a more accessible destination for both business and tourism.
