Patna: Bihar is expected to witness a fresh spell of storms and rainfall from March 27, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for several districts and warning of lightning and gusty winds.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, the change in weather has been triggered by a western disturbance, which is likely to bring thunderstorms, light to moderate rainfall and winds of 40–50 kmph across the state.
An orange alert has been issued for 12 districts, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar and Muzaffarpur. These areas may experience thunderstorms, hailstorms and lightning.
A yellow alert remains in place for the rest of the state, including Patna, Gaya, Begusarai, Bhagalpur and Purnia, where adverse weather conditions are also expected.
Meteorologists said north Bihar is likely to be the most affected, with the impact of the system expected to last for around three days. Similar conditions may persist over the weekend, particularly in Kosi, Seemanchal and eastern districts.
The shift in weather follows a period of rising temperatures across the state. On Thursday, several districts in south Bihar recorded maximum temperatures above 35C, with Bikramganj in Rohtas district touching 37.9C.
Officials said the incoming spell of rain and cloud cover is likely to bring some relief from the heat.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly in areas prone to lightning and strong winds.
