Rohtas: A student in Rohtas district has died after reportedly falling from a building shortly after the release of Class 10 examination results, an incident that has shocked the local community and raised concerns over student wellbeing.
The incident took place on Sunday evening in the Fazalganj area of Sasaram. The student, a resident of Chandwa village, had appeared for the Bihar School Examination Board’s matriculation exams this year. According to local residents, he was distressed after receiving lower-than-expected marks.
Family members said the student had previously passed his Class 10 examinations under the CBSE board with a second division and had hoped to improve his performance. Villagers reported that the latest results appeared to have left him deeply upset.
Police said the student had gone to visit a newly constructed house when he fell from the premises and sustained serious injuries. He was given initial medical attention and was being taken to Varanasi for further treatment but died on the way.
Officers from Darigaon police station have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. “We are examining the case from all angles and trying to determine whether it was an accident or a case of suicide,” said station house officer Nitish Kumar.
While some locals have suggested the student may have been under mental stress linked to his results, authorities said no conclusion has yet been reached. The family has not issued a formal statement.
The death has triggered grief in the village, where residents described the student’s family as devastated. His father is employed in a state government department.
The incident comes amid growing concern about the psychological impact of exam results on students. Education experts have repeatedly called for stronger counselling systems and greater awareness around mental health, particularly during result periods.
