Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is set to resign from his post after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, in a move that has reignited political tensions in the state. He is also expected to step down from his position as a member of the legislative council (MLC) on Monday, according to officials.
The development has triggered sharp reactions across Bihar’s political landscape, with Prashant Kishore, founder of the Jansuraj campaign, launching a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Prashant Kishore questioned who would now fulfil the promise of providing 10 lakh jobs to Bihar’s youth, a key pledge made during earlier political campaigns.
“We had already said before the elections that Nitish Kumar’s health was not good,” Prashant Kishore said, adding that the chief minister “was neither fully fit then nor now”, and suggesting this was the reason behind his removal.
He further accused leaders of the Janata Dal (United) and the BJP of misleading the public by projecting Nitish Kumar as fit to lead while making large-scale employment promises. “Those who sold Nitish Kumar’s name and declared him healthy are guilty before the people of Bihar,” he said.
Prashant Kishore also raised questions about the leadership transition, arguing that the next chief minister would not necessarily reflect the will of the electorate. “The real chief ministerial face should be the one the public chooses, but today it will be decided by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah,” he said.
The anticipated resignation comes at a time when Bihar’s politics remains fluid, with shifting alliances and leadership uncertainty continuing to shape the state’s political trajectory.
