Patna: Political tensions in Bihar intensified on Monday following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation from the state Legislative Council, drawing sharp criticism from the opposition and praise from within the ruling alliance.
The move prompted Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav to launch an attack on Kumar, alleging that the decision reflected a broader strategy by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Yadav said he had anticipated such a development for some time.
Among those defending the chief minister was former Bihar chief minister and Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who publicly welcomed the decision. Sharing a copy of Kumar’s resignation letter on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Manjhi posted two lines from a Bhojpuri song describing Kumar as “unmatched”.
तहरा जईसन केहू नईखें,
तू बे-जोड़ बाड़ा हो…
आपके मार्गदर्शन से ही बिहार चलेगा नीतीश जी।

“There is no one quite like you; you are truly unmatched,” he wrote, alongside praise for Kumar’s leadership, describing him as the architect of a “new Bihar”. Speaking to reporters, Manjhi said Kumar deserved credit for implementing a vision he had long pursued.
Manjhi’s son and Bihar minister Santosh Kumar Suman also backed the chief minister’s decision, describing Kumar as a “valiant figure” whose tenure had marked a significant phase in the state’s development. He expressed confidence that Bihar would now have a new chief minister who would govern inclusively.
Suman added that any future leader would operate under Kumar’s guidance, and suggested it would take considerable time for another politician to reach his stature.
The developments come amid ongoing political repositioning in the state, with leaders across parties trading sharp remarks following Kumar’s resignation.
