Patna: Samrat Chaudhary has said that Bihar has created a record number of government jobs in recent years, claiming that around 12 lakh people have been employed over the past five years.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of Musallahpur Haat in Patna, the deputy chief minister said the figure included around 5.5 lakh teachers. He added that the state was progressing across sectors under the leadership of chief minister Nitish Kumar and prime minister Narendra Modi.
Samrat Chaudhary said the government has set an ambitious target of providing employment to 10 million people in the coming years, with a focus on accelerating industrial development to generate further opportunities.
The deputy chief minister inaugurated the 100th anniversary celebrations and felicitation ceremony organised by the Koeri Hitkarini Panchit Haat Committee. During the event, students raised concerns about employment, which he acknowledged and responded to.
He also announced financial support of Rs 2–3 crore for the development of the market and asked committee chairman Uttam Mehta to prepare a detailed development plan.
Samrat Chaudhary praised the committee for its social initiatives, including support for widows, elderly people, the disabled and meritorious students.
Providing historical context, Uttam Mehta said the market was established on March 31, 1927, when members of the Kushwaha community donated around two acres of land following a suggestion by a local vendor, Chitkunwar Devi.
He also proposed new development projects, including a 50-room student hostel and a shopping complex.
Several public representatives and community leaders, including Ratnesh Kushwaha and Roop Narayan Mehta, were present at the event.
