Patna: The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has added 32 new deluxe buses to its fleet in Patna, marking a significant step in expanding interstate transport services and improving connectivity to neighbouring states.
The newly acquired buses, manufactured by Tata Motors, include both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned 2×2 seater models. They are currently stationed at a Tata agency yard in Fatuha and are expected to be formally handed over to the corporation following the completion of administrative procedures.
Officials said the buses are equipped with modern safety and monitoring systems. Each vehicle features three cameras, including two covering the passenger area and one rear-facing unit designed to assist with reversing and enhance operational safety. A panic button has also been installed to allow passengers to alert authorities in case of emergencies.
The transport department is expected to complete registration and permit formalities within the next month. Services are scheduled to begin from the first week of May, with routes connecting Bihar to major destinations such as Delhi and Haryana.
The move is likely to reduce reliance on private bus operators, particularly for long-distance travel. Authorities indicated that services will be rolled out across multiple districts, with a focus on improving accessibility for passengers travelling for work and business.
BSRTC plans to operate a total of 149 interstate buses, with the remaining 117 expected to arrive in Patna over the next two months. Districts in north Bihar, including Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur and Motihari, are expected to benefit significantly from the expansion.
The number of direct services to cities such as Gurugram, Ambala and Delhi is set to increase, offering greater convenience and reliability for passengers undertaking long journeys.
