Begusarai: An encounter between police and suspected criminals in Begusarai resulted in the arrest of four individuals after a prolonged gunfight, officials said.
The exchange of fire took place near Narayan Chowk in the Mansoorchak police station area after a Special Task Force (STF) team from Patna acted on a tip-off about armed criminals hiding in the locality.
According to initial reports, the STF team launched a raid following the intelligence input. On spotting the police, the suspects allegedly opened fire and attempted to flee, prompting retaliatory firing by the security personnel.
The encounter, which began shortly after 10am, continued for nearly three hours before the situation was brought under control around 1pm.
Police said four suspects were apprehended during the operation, while several others managed to escape. A search operation is under way in the nearby Dashrathpur area, where the remaining suspects are believed to be hiding.
Officials have not yet released detailed information about the identities of those arrested or the nature of the alleged criminal activities.
Authorities said combing operations are continuing in the area to track down the absconding suspects and secure the area.
