Motihari: India’s Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday praised the rich historical and spiritual legacy of Bihar while addressing the third convocation ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi Central University in Motihari.
He said Bihar has played a defining role in shaping major global ideologies, including Buddhist, Jain and socialist thought, and has given direction to world history.
Highlighting the significance of Champaran, the Vice President noted that it was here that Mahatma Gandhi emerged as a mass leader. He said the Champaran Satyagraha transformed Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi into “Mahatma” and gave a new direction to India’s freedom movement.
Referring to Bihar’s ancient heritage, he said Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment on this land, while Nalanda University once stood as a global centre of learning and is now being revived.
The Vice President also spoke about India’s economic progress, describing the country as one of the most stable nations in the world. He said India has become the fourth-largest economy and is on track to reach the third position in the near future.
Emphasising education reforms, he said the university has implemented the National Education Policy 2020 and that emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and data science are opening new opportunities for innovation and growth.
Addressing graduating students, he said their degrees represent not just academic success but also a responsibility towards society. He also acknowledged the role of teachers and parents in shaping students’ achievements.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Harivansh Narayan Singh, Syed Ata Hasnain, Satish Chandra Dubey, Samrat Choudhary and Sunil Kumar.
