Patna: A three-day workshop aimed at reviewing the progress of urban infrastructure projects across Bihar began in Patna on Saturday, with senior officials urging engineers to update their skills and tighten monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely completion of works.
The programme, held under the banner “Mission Project Completion” and organised by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo), was inaugurated by the state’s Principal Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, Vinay Kumar, alongside BUIDCO managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar and other senior officials.
Speaking at the inauguration, Kumar said the initiative was intended not only to review projects but to address bottlenecks at the field level. He stressed that urban infrastructure development was both a challenge and a responsibility, calling on engineers to continuously upgrade their technical understanding.
He also directed officials to closely examine detailed project reports (DPRs) and bid documents to prevent avoidable errors during execution. Stressing administrative discipline, he asked departments to ensure land-related clearances are verified in advance and to expedite time-bound processing of project files, particularly those linked to taxation. He warned that negligence at any stage of implementation would invite strict action.
BUIDCo’s managing director Parashar outlined the corporation’s working model, saying the agency was responsible for maintaining transparency across all stages of project execution—from awarding contracts to final delivery. He added that the organisation planned to set up an in-house laboratory for quality testing and verification of materials used in projects.
According to officials, the “Mission Project Completion” exercise covers a range of ongoing schemes across the state, including water supply, stormwater drainage, road construction, the Mukhyamantri Shahari Samagra Yojana and the AMRUT programme.
In an earlier phase of the initiative, BUIDCo teams reportedly visited all districts to assess on-ground progress and compile findings. The current workshop brings together officials from all 38 districts to present updates, challenges and progress reports.
Over the three days, district-level officials will make presentations on project status and constraints, followed by open sessions for discussion. Based on these assessments, rankings for all districts will be prepared and released, with high-performing districts set to be recognised.
The programme also included a cultural performance by Neetu Kumari Navgeet, brand ambassador of the Namami Gange initiative. The workshop will conclude with a session conducted by the Art of Living Foundation, involving participating officials and staff.
