Lakhisarai/Patna: Amid intensifying political chatter over leadership in Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has publicly distanced himself from any ambition to become chief minister, asserting that his focus remains on public service rather than political office.
Speaking during a ‘Jan Samvad’ programme at his residence in Lakhisarai, Sinha said he was “not in any race” for the top post. “My objective is not to attain office, but to serve the people,” he said, drawing a clear line amid ongoing speculation within Bihar’s political landscape.
His remarks come at a time when discussions around leadership roles within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state — often framed as equations between the alliance’s “big brother” and “little brother” — have been gaining traction. Sinha dismissed reports of any internal discord, insisting that the alliance remains united.
Alongside his political messaging, Sinha also announced development initiatives for his home constituency. Projects worth approximately Rs 4.35 crore were either inaugurated or launched in the municipal council area of Lakhisarai.
Of the total outlay, completed works worth Rs 2.85 crore were dedicated to the public, while foundation stones were laid for new projects amounting to Rs 1.50 crore. Sinha said improving basic civic amenities was central to governance and reflected the government’s priorities.
Later, addressing party workers during the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Training Campaign’ in Rampur, Suryagarha, Sinha struck a cautionary note on the nature of political engagement. He urged workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party to treat politics as a means of public service rather than a source of livelihood.
He encouraged cadre members to be financially self-reliant, arguing that independence would enable them to serve society without bias or external pressure. “Only a self-reliant worker can truly become the voice of the people,” he said, adding that such an approach was essential to sustaining credibility in public life.
