Siwan/Patna: A fresh controversy has emerged in Bihar’s Siwan district after Osama Shahab, a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA from Raghunathpur, was accused of attempting to illegally encroach upon a parcel of land.
Police said an FIR has been registered following a complaint by a doctor couple, and an investigation is now underway.
The complainants, Vinay Singh and Sudha Singh, alleged that efforts were being made to forcibly take possession of their land located along the bypass road in Junapur village. The couple, originally from Gopalganj, currently reside in Gorakhpur in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
According to their complaint, unidentified individuals approached them and warned against carrying out construction on the plot. They alleged that they were asked to relinquish the land in favour of Shahab and leave for Gorakhpur, failing which they were threatened with death.
Police have named Shahab, along with two individuals identified as Farhan and Sabir, in the FIR. In addition, cases have been registered against 30 to 35 unidentified persons. The complainants also alleged that labourers working on the site were assaulted.
The case adds to the legal troubles facing Shahab. Earlier this month, another FIR was lodged against him in connection with an alleged conspiracy to commit murder following a violent altercation.
That incident, reported on April 5, involved a clash between an autorickshaw driver and occupants of a sports utility vehicle, which escalated into stone-pelting and reported gunfire. Cases were filed by both sides, and police personnel were also said to have been attacked during the confrontation.
Authorities said further investigation is ongoing in both matters.
