Patna: The inauguration of the Malahi Pakri metro station in Patna, a key component of the city’s expanding metro network, has been delayed due to pending safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).
While construction work at the station has been completed and trial runs have been successfully conducted, operations cannot begin without final approval from the CMRS, which is mandated after a comprehensive safety inspection.
Officials said the inspection has been pending for nearly two months, pushing back multiple proposed launch timelines. The project was initially expected to be operational in January, with subsequent targets set for February and March. However, even midway through April, no confirmed launch date has been announced.

The proposed metro stretch connecting Bhutnath to Malahi Pakri is seen as a significant development for the city’s transport infrastructure. Once operational, it is expected to ease congestion in densely populated areas such as Kankarbagh and Rajendra Nagar, where daily traffic snarls are common.
The route is also expected to improve connectivity to the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Bairiya, offering greater convenience for passengers travelling within and beyond the city, while reducing travel time.

Project officials have maintained that safety remains the top priority and that services will commence only after all technical and regulatory requirements are fully met.
The launch date will be announced once clearance is granted, they said, as residents continue to await the start of metro operations that promise to make daily commuting faster and more efficient.
