Patna: Patna district is set to significantly expand its electric vehicle infrastructure, with plans to establish 58 solar-powered charging stations across both urban and rural areas.
Officials said the stations will function on the model of petrol pumps, offering a network of accessible charging points aimed at addressing the growing demand for EV infrastructure.
Locations Identified, Work To Begin Soon
Authorities have already identified 58 sites across the district, with land allocated by the municipal corporation. Construction is expected to begin in June under the supervision of the district transport office.
Each station will be equipped with two to three charging points and will operate on a prepaid system, officials said.
Upendra Kumar Pal, district transport officer of Patna, said all stations would be powered by solar energy and built using a standardised design.
Coverage Across Key Areas
Charging stations will be set up at prominent locations within the city, including Kankarbagh, Boring Road, Danapur, Saguna Mor, Shivpuri and Chitkohra.
Facilities will also be extended to areas outside the capital such as Barh, Bakhtiyarpur, Mokama and Dulhinbazar, ensuring wider regional coverage.
Fast And Slow Charging Options
The stations will offer both slow and fast charging facilities, with multiple charging configurations to support different types of electric vehicles.
Officials said the network will cater to a wide range of vehicles, including two-wheelers, cars, auto-rickshaws and buses.
Boost To EV Adoption
The number of electric vehicles in Patna has risen steadily in recent years, but limited charging infrastructure has posed challenges for users, many of whom rely on home charging.
The new network is expected to reduce dependence on home charging and provide round-the-clock access to public charging facilities.
Currently, only five to six charging stations are operational across the district. Officials said the expansion would significantly improve convenience for EV owners and support the broader transition to cleaner transport.
