Patna: The Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), led by Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, will launch a state-wide outreach programme in Bihar, holding ‘Garib Chaupals’ in every district to hear grievances from Dalits and other marginalised communities.
Speaking at an Ambedkar Jayanti event at Patna’s Shri Krishna Memorial Hall on Sunday, HAM national president Santosh Kumar Suman said he would personally travel across the state as part of the initiative, which he described as a grassroots effort aimed at reaching “the last person in society” with solutions rather than symbolic engagement.
The party said the forums are intended to function as direct grievance hearings for economically and socially disadvantaged groups, with leaders listening to concerns on education, welfare access and social discrimination.
At the same event, Manjhi reiterated that equality in education and political representation remained central to development. He argued that social justice could not be achieved unless all sections of society had equal access to quality education, and called for unity among Dalit and marginalised communities against practices such as untouchability and social hierarchy.
Citing B.R. Ambedkar’s writings, he said deprivation of education effectively defined social exclusion, adding that internal divisions continued to weaken society. Party leaders present at the programme took a collective pledge to uphold Ambedkar’s ideals.
The event was moderated by HAM national principal general secretary Rajesh Pandey and national chief spokesperson Shyamsundar Sharan, and addressed by several party leaders including state president Dr Anil Kumar and MLAs Prafulla Manjhi, Jyoti Manjhi, Deepa Manjhi and Romit Singh.
