Patna: Bihar is witnessing extreme weather conditions, with severe heat gripping southern and western districts even as parts of north and eastern Bihar receive rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Temperatures in districts such as Gaya, Kaimur and Buxar hovered around 42°C on Sunday, while Rohtas and Aurangabad recorded highs exceeding 43°C, making them among the hottest regions in the state.
South Bihar Reels Under Intense Heat
The heat has disrupted daily life across several districts, with roads in many areas remaining largely deserted during peak afternoon hours.
Dehri in Rohtas recorded around 43°C, the highest temperature in the state, highlighting the severity of conditions. Patna and adjoining areas have also been affected, with heatwave-like conditions making outdoor movement difficult.
The IMD has issued heatwave warnings for multiple districts, including the capital, and cautioned that temperatures could rise further between April 20 and April 24.
Rainfall Brings Relief In North Bihar
In contrast, districts in Seemanchal and north Bihar — including Kishanganj, Supaul and Khagaria — experienced rainfall accompanied by dust storms, leading to a temporary drop in temperatures and more comfortable conditions.
Meteorologists said the uneven weather pattern reflects the interaction of multiple weather systems across the region.
Moderation Expected Later This Week
Weather conditions are expected to moderate between April 23 and April 25 due to the influence of a western disturbance over the Himalayan region.
During this period, skies across much of the state, including Patna, are likely to remain partly cloudy, with chances of light rainfall and thunderstorms.
Advisory For Residents
Authorities have advised residents to avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Officials said the coming days will be crucial, with the potential for both intensifying heat in southern districts and intermittent relief in northern parts of the state.
