Patna: Passengers aboard a Vande Bharat Express train were left shaken after unidentified individuals hurled stones at the moving train near Bettiah in Bihar, officials said.
The incident occurred on the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 26501) near Prajapati Halt, where stones struck a window in coach C-2, damaging the glass.
Window Shattered During Attack
According to railway officials, the impact of the stones cracked and shattered the window near seats 53 and 54. No serious injuries were reported, though the incident caused panic among passengers.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene immediately, taking advantage of low visibility and nearby vegetation.
Case Registered, Probe Underway
An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons at the Narkatiaganj RPF police station. A team from the Railway Protection Force has launched an investigation and is examining CCTV footage from the train to identify those involved.
Officials said strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for endangering passenger safety.
Not An Isolated Incident
Authorities noted that this is not the first such attack on the route. A similar stone-pelting incident had earlier been reported between Kanti and Kaparpura stations in the Samastipur division.
Railway officials said a combination of local mischief and lack of awareness among people living near railway tracks has contributed to such incidents.
Increased Vigilance Planned
The RPF is planning to intensify patrolling in vulnerable areas and conduct awareness campaigns to prevent further attacks.
Officials said ensuring the safety of passengers on premium trains such as Vande Bharat remains a priority, and measures are being strengthened accordingly.
