Purnia: Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, has sparked a major political controversy with his remarks on women’s reservation and comments targeting political leaders, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Addressing the media, Pappu Yadav alleged that women’s safety is being neglected and claimed that political leaders play a significant role in cases of sexual exploitation in the country. In a controversial statement, he said that “90 percent of women’s political careers begin from leaders’ beds,” drawing sharp reactions.
The Purnia MP also launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, using derogatory comparisons and calling him “characterless.” He further escalated his remarks by likening him to animals and stating that those who speak against powerful leaders are treated like “barking dogs,” while influential figures continue unaffected.
Caste Census Before Women’s Reservation, Says Yadav
On the Women’s Reservation Bill, Pappu Yadav criticised the central government, alleging that the decision was taken without adequate discussion, expert consultation, or input from states. He questioned why the bill was not passed earlier despite the government having a full majority in 2014 and 2019.
He said he supports women’s reservation in principle but raised concerns over the government’s intent. He added that communities such as OBC, EBC, SC/ST, and minorities would not accept policies implemented without broader representation and consultation.
Backs Samrat Choudhary for Bihar CM Post
Commenting on political developments in Bihar, Yadav expressed support for BJP leader Samrat Choudhary as a potential Chief Minister. He said the elevation of a leader from a backward class would be significant but alleged that some members within the BJP are unable to accept such a move and have been using inappropriate language.
He also questioned the selective criticism within the party, claiming that several leaders face scrutiny over their educational qualifications and criminal records, yet only one individual is being targeted.
Alleges Lack of Acceptance Within BJP
Yadav further accused the BJP of double standards, referring to past cases involving Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He claimed that despite being projected as a key leader, Samrat Choudhary has not received the expected recognition from the party’s top leadership.
According to Yadav, there was no major celebration or immediate engagement with central leadership following Choudhary’s rise, indicating that he may not have been fully accepted within the party.
The remarks have intensified political debate, with reactions expected from leaders across parties.
