Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in six districts of Bihar, warning that temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius. The alert comes amid rising heat across the state, with several regions likely to experience intense and humid weather over the next few days.
According to the IMD forecast, while parts of the state will continue to reel under severe heat, five districts may witness light drizzle or cloudy conditions, offering limited relief. In most other districts, residents are expected to face both high temperatures and uncomfortable humidity.
The weather department has indicated a possible change in weather patterns after April 28, particularly in southern Bihar, including Patna. If an active weather system in north Bihar extends its influence southward, cloud cover and partial rainfall could occur, potentially bringing down temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
Forecast for April 24–30
Meteorologists have predicted that between April 24 and 30, northern, central, and eastern parts of the state may receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph. However, several districts in southwest Bihar are expected to remain dry, with maximum temperatures ranging between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius.
Authorities have warned of heatwave-like conditions persisting in these regions for the next two to three days, which could impact daily life.
Rain, lightning likely in north and east Bihar
Weather conditions are expected to shift in several northern and eastern districts, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Saharsa, Madhepura and Darbhanga, where rainfall is likely.
Additionally, districts such as Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Jamui, Khagaria, Begusarai and Lakhisarai may experience light to moderate rain.
The department has cautioned residents and farmers about the risk of lightning and strong winds, advising them to take necessary precautions. Rainfall activity could also lead to a slight dip in temperatures in parts of north Bihar.
Dry heat persists in southwest Bihar
Districts in southwest Bihar, including Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Arwal, Gaya and Nawada, are likely to remain dry, with maximum temperatures hovering between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. Heatwave-like conditions are expected to persist for the next two to three days.
No immediate relief in Patna
The state capital Patna has recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours. The IMD has forecast dry conditions with temperatures ranging between 41 and 42 degrees Celsius over the next few days.
Hot westerly winds and strong sunlight during the day are expected to continue, with little likelihood of relief from the heat for at least the next two to three days.
