Patna: Patna’s Patliputra University is planning a major change in how students study in undergraduate courses. Under the New Education Policy, the university is getting ready to introduce multidisciplinary courses. This means students will no longer be limited to only Arts, Science, or Commerce subjects. Instead, they will be able to choose additional subjects based on their interests.
The main idea behind this move is to give students more freedom in learning. Earlier, students had to follow one fixed stream throughout their degree. Now, they will be able to study extra subjects along with their main subjects. University officials say this will help students gain more knowledge in different areas and also improve their skills for future jobs.
However, not every subject will open in every college automatically. The university has set a rule that at least 30 students must choose a subject before it can be started in a college. If enough students are interested, the university will arrange teachers for that subject. In some cases, guest teachers or outside experts may also be called to teach specialized topics.
The university plans to begin this system from the new academic session. According to Registrar Prof. A.K. Rizvi, the system is designed to give students more flexible learning options. He said students will be able to select extra subjects each semester, even if they are not related to their main course. This is expected to make education more practical and useful.
Students in courses like B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com. will be able to pick from subjects such as Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Sports Science, E-commerce, Indian Knowledge System, and “Glimpses of India.” University officials believe this will help students learn beyond textbooks and prepare better for future challenges by understanding multiple fields instead of just one.
