Patna: In a major push to industrial development and employment generation, the Bihar government has cleared land allocation for multiple new industrial units across the state. The projects, spanning food processing, textiles, recycling and makhana processing, are expected to attract an investment of around Rs 150 crore and generate approximately 3,200 direct jobs.
According to the Industries Department, these units will be set up in different districts, with production likely to begin by 2027 after completion of construction.
Industries Department Secretary Kundan Kumar said the state is focusing on transparent land allocation to investors while ensuring improved connectivity and infrastructure. “Developing industrial zones with better facilities is our priority, and we are committed to creating an investor-friendly ecosystem in Bihar,” he said.
As part of the plan, a food processing unit will be established in Hajipur, where products such as biscuits, bread, toast and chips will be manufactured. Muzaffarpur will see the development of a textile hub, expected to produce garments for both national and international markets. A makhana processing unit is planned in Purnia, while Darbhanga will host a large recycling plant spread over 12.96 acres.
The recycling unit in Darbhanga alone will involve an investment of Rs 126 crore and is expected to significantly improve waste management in the region. Officials said the facility could help make a 40-kilometre area largely waste-free and enable reuse of plastic materials, contributing to environmental sustainability.
Among the proposed projects, the textile unit in Muzaffarpur is expected to generate the highest employment, with around 1,500 direct jobs.
Officials believe these developments mark a shift in Bihar’s economic trajectory, positioning the state as an emerging processing and manufacturing hub. With abundant raw materials such as makhana and grains, along with a large labour force, Bihar is increasingly attracting industrial investment.
If the planned projects are implemented successfully with efficient production and logistics, the state could emerge as a key manufacturing centre in North India by 2027, officials added.
