Patna: The newly expanded Bihar cabinet led by Samrat Choudhary formally began its tenure on Thursday following a high-profile swearing-in ceremony at Gandhi Maidan, with the induction of several first-time ministers drawing significant political attention.
Among the most closely watched entrants was Nishant Kumar, son of former chief minister Nitish Kumar, who joined the cabinet for the first time.
Seven New Faces In Cabinet
The NDA government inducted seven first-time ministers, reflecting what political observers described as an attempt by both the Janata Dal (United) and the Bharatiya Janata Party to promote younger and newer faces within the alliance.
Nishant Kumar, an engineering graduate from Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, had largely remained away from active politics for years before formally entering the political arena through a statewide “Sadbhavna Yatra”.
Party leaders view him as a potential future face of JD(U), and his induction is being interpreted as a significant political signal regarding the party’s long-term leadership transition.
Women Representation In Focus
From the JD(U) quota, Dr Shweta Gupta was also inducted into the cabinet.
A first-time MLA from Shivhar, Gupta is a medical professional holding MBBS and MD degrees. Her inclusion is being viewed as part of the NDA’s effort to strengthen women’s representation in government.
Experienced And Regional Leaders Included
Bulo Mandal, also known as Shailesh Kumar, secured a ministerial berth from the JD(U) quota.
A former MP with experience across multiple political parties, Mandal is regarded as an influential leader within the Gangota community and is expected to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
From the BJP side, leaders including Mithilesh Tiwari, Engineer Shailendra, Dr Ramchandra Prasad and Nandkishore Ram were inducted into the cabinet for the first time.
Party insiders said the selections reflected efforts to balance caste, regional and generational considerations within the NDA alliance.
Focus On Social Balance
Political analysts noted that the cabinet expansion attempted to combine youth, women and leaders from diverse social backgrounds while maintaining the NDA’s broader caste equations.
Nishant Kumar’s entry, in particular, has intensified political discussion regarding the future leadership trajectory within JD(U).
Attention is now shifting towards how the new ministers perform in government and whether the inclusion of fresh faces will translate into changes in administrative functioning and political messaging.
