Gopalganj/Patna: Police in Gopalganj district have pasted a court notice ahead of possible property seizure proceedings at the ancestral home of Satish Pandey, brother of Janata Dal (United) MLA Amrendra Kumar, also known as Pappu Pandey, in connection with an alleged illegal land occupation case.
The action was carried out in Tulsiya village under Hathua block, where officers publicly announced the notice by beating drums, a traditional method used to inform residents of legal proceedings.
The case relates to allegations of illegal occupation of nearly 16 acres of high-value land in the Belwa area of Kuchaykot. Police have named three accused in the case: JD(U) MLA Pappu Pandey, his brother Satish Pandey, and chartered accountant Rahul Tiwari.
Authorities allege that the accused provided protection to land mafia groups involved in unlawfully taking control of the property. The police action has triggered intense political discussion in the district, where the Pandey family has long held significant influence.
A court hearing on anticipatory bail petitions filed by Pappu Pandey and Satish Pandey is expected later on Thursday. Local political observers and residents are closely watching the proceedings.
Darpan Suman, the station house officer, said the police were acting in accordance with legal procedure.
“This action is being carried out as per the law. If the accused fail to surrender before the court or police within the stipulated period, police will seek court approval to begin property attachment and seizure proceedings,” he said.
Deployment of police force in Tulsiya village has been increased following the operation, with heightened security arrangements in the area. Residents gathered in large numbers as news of the action spread, fuelling speculation over the political implications of the case.
