Patna: Work on the Patna Metro project is moving forward quickly, but one of its most important stations, Khemichak, is still under construction. Authorities are aiming to complete this station by July, even though a large part of the work on Corridor-1 is still pending. Officials say around 70 percent of the construction work on this corridor is yet to be finished, which shows that a lot of effort is still required before full readiness.
The Khemichak station is planned as a major interchange point in the Patna Metro network. It will connect two different metro corridors, making travel easier for passengers across the city. On Corridor-2, the stretch between Bhutnath and Malahi Pakri has progressed well, and civil construction work has already been completed in many parts. Platforms on this side are also reported to be ready for use.
However, Corridor-1, which connects towards Mithapur, is still under construction at Khemichak. This includes platform development and other civil work that is still in progress. Officials have confirmed that while Corridor-2 is almost ready at this station, Corridor-1 will take more time before it can be fully completed. Because of this, Khemichak station will not open at the same time as Malahi Pakri station.
The project has gained urgency after recent instructions from the state leadership. Samrat Chaudhary recently reviewed the metro progress and asked officials to speed up the remaining work. His directions came after concerns that delays could affect the overall timeline of the project, which is important for improving public transport in the city.
At the same time, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has also inspected part of the metro line and raised 22 technical points that need attention. Metro officials have already responded to these observations, and a final report is expected soon. This approval is important before passenger services can begin on any new stretch.
With construction work still ongoing and safety clearance awaited, the coming weeks are crucial for the Patna Metro project. Authorities are trying to ensure that Khemichak station is completed on time so that the city can move one step closer to having a modern and efficient metro system.
