Bhagalpur is preparing for a major shift towards green public transport with plans for a new electric bus terminal and the introduction of 50 e-buses under the Prime Minister’s Electric Bus Scheme.
Dedicated Parking and Passenger Facilities
Officials said the proposed terminal would include separate parking facilities for four-wheelers, auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers in an effort to streamline traffic movement and improve passenger convenience.
Large-Scale Terminal Development
The project will be developed across nearly 9.66 acres, with around 5.6 acres allocated specifically for the construction of the e-bus terminal.
Bhagalpur to Receive 50 Electric Buses
Under the central government scheme, Bihar is expected to receive a total of 400 electric buses, of which 50 have been earmarked for Bhagalpur. Authorities said the initiative is intended to provide safer, more efficient and environmentally sustainable public transport for residents.
Focus on Sustainable Urban Mobility
Officials added that the operation of electric buses would help reduce fuel consumption and lower urban pollution levels, while also supporting broader goals linked to sustainable urban planning.
Plans to Expand the E-Bus Network
The district administration and transport department are also planning to expand the electric bus network across the district once the terminal becomes operational.
Bhagalpur Eyes Leadership in Electric Transport
With the completion of the project, Bhagalpur is expected to emerge as one of Bihar’s leading cities in the operation of electric public transport systems.
