Patna: In an era where almost everything is going digital, one corner of Patna has gone unexpectedly viral for turning an old ATM into something entirely different: a barber shop.
At first glance, the small kiosk in Vijay Vihar Colony near Rupaspur Police Station looks like an ordinary State Bank of India ATM. The familiar signage remains intact, the structure looks unchanged, and passersby still occasionally walk toward it expecting to withdraw cash.
But once inside, they discover there is no ATM machine — only mirrors, salon chairs, shaving kits and hair clippers.

From Cash Withdrawals To Haircuts
According to local residents, the booth once housed a fully operational SBI ATM used regularly by nearby residents and bank customers.
At some point, however, the ATM service was discontinued and the cash machine removed. The structure itself remained untouched.
The property was later rented out to a tenant who converted the space into a salon — while leaving much of the old ATM branding intact.
Landlord S K Singh confirmed the unusual transition.
“For some reason, the ATM machine was removed, but the entire setup remained as it was. Later, the place was rented out and the tenant opened a salon there without removing the ATM signage,” he said.
‘Do Haircut Charges Get Deducted From Bank Account?’
The quirky setup has now become a social media sensation across Bihar.
Videos of the so-called “Hair-Cutting ATM” have gone viral, drawing amused reactions online.
One user joked: “So do you pay cash for the haircut, or does the amount get deducted directly from your bank account?”
Another wrote: “Come visit us… here in Bihar!”
The booth has also turned into a local selfie hotspot, with curious visitors arriving simply to photograph the bizarre ATM-salon hybrid.

Following the viral attention, the SBI signboard outside the booth was reportedly covered with newspapers temporarily — perhaps an attempt to calm the frenzy surrounding Patna’s most unconventional “ATM”.
