Patna: A fresh incident of chain snatching in Patna’s Kankarbagh area has once again raised concerns over street crime in the state capital after the brother of an RJD MLA was allegedly targeted by bike-borne snatchers in broad daylight.
According to police, Rohit Kumar, brother of Jehanabad MLA Rahul Kumar, was passing near Sai Temple under the Kankarbagh police station area when two unidentified men on a motorcycle approached him and snatched a gold chain from his neck before fleeing the spot.
Witnesses said the incident happened within seconds, leaving residents shocked in one of Patna’s busiest residential neighbourhoods. The accused reportedly escaped through narrow lanes in the locality before anyone could intercept them.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby. Footage accessed by investigators allegedly shows two youths arriving on a motorcycle, carrying out the snatching, and fleeing immediately after the crime.
Local residents said repeated incidents of theft and snatching have created fear among people in the area, with many questioning the effectiveness of policing in the locality.
Police teams from Kankarbagh police station reached the spot soon after receiving information and began an investigation. Officers have recorded the victim’s statement and collected CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused.
Kankarbagh SHO Abhay Kumar said preliminary investigation suggests two people were involved in the crime. He added that police are scanning footage from nearby cameras and tracking the suspects’ escape route.
Police officials claimed raids are being conducted based on technical and human intelligence inputs, and said the accused are expected to be arrested soon.
