Ara: A 42-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Special Branch was killed on Monday morning after a speeding school bus allegedly ran over his motorcycle near Indu Tapeshwar Women’s College on the Ara-Patna Highway in Bhojpur district.
The deceased was identified as Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Goldie Singh, a resident of Baligaon village under Ayar police station limits in Bhojpur. He was posted with the Special Branch in Patna.
According to police, the incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Town Police Station area when Singh was travelling from his village to Patna to report for duty.
Bus Seized, Driver Absconding
Following the accident, local residents informed the police, after which officers reached the spot and seized the school bus involved in the incident.
The driver, however, fled the scene immediately after the collision. Police said raids are being conducted to trace and arrest him.
Preliminary findings indicate that reckless driving may have caused the accident. Authorities said an investigation is underway.
Victim Was Returning After Family Bereavement
Family members said Singh had recently travelled to his ancestral village following the death of his grandfather about a week ago.
On Monday morning, he left for Patna on his motorcycle when the bus allegedly hit him near the bypass road close to Indu Tapeshwar Women’s College.
According to eyewitness accounts, the impact dragged the motorcycle and rider for a considerable distance, causing severe injuries.
Locals rushed to the spot and took Singh to Sadar Hospital in Ara for treatment. Doctors later declared him dead during treatment.
Post-Mortem Underway
Police said the body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
