Patna: In a bid to strengthen road safety measures and improve compliance with traffic regulations, the Bihar Transport Department has launched a new public participation initiative that enables citizens to directly report traffic violations to authorities.

Under the initiative, residents can send photos and videos of traffic rule violations through WhatsApp on 9153971897 or via email at commandcontrolecenterbihar@gmail.com. The department said the information received will be used to initiate action against violators under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Citizens Asked to Act as ‘Road Safety Guardians’

The Transport Department said the move is aimed at encouraging public participation in traffic enforcement and reducing road accidents across Bihar.

Citizens can report incidents such as overspeeding, riding without helmets, not wearing seatbelts, triple riding on two-wheelers, wrong-side driving, using mobile phones while driving, rash driving, and other violations.

According to the department, submitted photos and videos will be examined to verify vehicle registration numbers and other relevant details before action is taken against the concerned driver or vehicle owner.

Confidentiality of Complainants Assured

Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said public participation is essential for improving road safety and ensuring effective implementation of traffic regulations.

He said ordinary citizens can now actively contribute to the enforcement process by acting as “road safety guardians” and reporting violations witnessed on roads.

Raj Kumar also stated that the identity of complainants would be kept strictly confidential by the department.

Focus on Reducing Road Accidents

The Transport Secretary described road safety as a collective responsibility and appealed to people to cooperate with the department in preventing accidents and promoting responsible driving practices.

He urged citizens to promptly inform authorities whenever they observe traffic violations and also follow traffic rules themselves to help build a safer road environment in Bihar.

The department said all complaints received through the dedicated WhatsApp number and email ID would be acted upon in accordance with legal provisions.
