Summer Rush Relief: Railways Announces Two Special Trains Between Delhi and Howrah via Patna

Services to operate via Patna, Ara, Buxar and other stations to manage increased passenger demand during summer holidays

Patna: In view of the increased passenger rush during the summer holidays, Indian Railways has decided to operate two pairs of special trains between New Delhi and Howrah.

The services are aimed at easing travel demand on the busy Delhi–Howrah route and will pass through key stations in Bihar, including Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction (DDU), Buxar, Ara, Patna, Bakhtiyarpur, Kiul and Jhajha.

Train no. 04048/04047: New Delhi–Howrah–New Delhi Special

Train no. 04048 will depart from New Delhi at 6.15pm on Thursday and reach Howrah at 11.40pm the following day.

En route, the train will stop at DDU at 10.30 am, Buxar at 11.40am, Ara at 12.25pm, Patna at 1.25pm, Bakhtiyarpur at 2.13pm, Kiul at 3.43pm and Jhajha at 4.55pm, among other stations.

On the return journey, train no. 04047 will leave Howrah at 1.40am on Saturday and arrive in New Delhi at 8.20 am the next day.

The train is scheduled to halt at Jhajha at 8.45am, Kiul at 9.33am, Bakhtiyarpur at 10.38am, Patna at 11.40am, Ara at 12.24pm, Buxar at 1.10pm and DDU at 3.05pm.

Train no. 04050/04049: Additional New Delhi–Howrah Special service

A second pair of special trains will also be operated on the same route.

Train no. 04050 will depart from New Delhi at 6.15pm on Saturday and reach Howrah at 11.40pm the next day, halting at the same stations and timings as train no. 04048.

Its return service, train no. 04049, will depart from Howrah at 1.40am on Monday 2026 and reach New Delhi at 8.20am the following day.

The return journey will include stoppages at Jhajha, Kiul, Bakhtiyarpur, Patna, Ara, Buxar and DDU, among other stations.

Railway officials said the special services have been introduced to improve passenger convenience and manage seasonal travel demand during the summer vacation period.
