New Delhi: The family of Lalu Prasad gathered in Ghaziabad on Wednesday to celebrate the first birthday of Iraj, the son of Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.
The celebration, attended by several senior political leaders and family members, also drew attention for the appearance of Tej Pratap Yadav, whose relationship with the family had remained strained over the past year.
Lalu Prasad, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and other members of the family were present at the event.
However, Tejashwi’s sister Rohini Acharya was notably absent from the celebrations.
Birthday Celebration Held in Ghaziabad
According to reports, the birthday party was organised at the residence of Lalu Prasad’s daughter Ragini Yadav in Ghaziabad, near Delhi.
The family had reportedly arrived in Delhi from Patna a day before the celebrations.
Several senior RJD leaders, including MLAs and MPs, attended the event alongside leaders from opposition parties.
Tejashwi Yadav is also reported to have invited opposition leaders including:
- Akhilesh Yadav
- Mamata Banerjee
- Arvind Kejriwal
Tej Pratap’s Presence Signals Thaw in Family Rift
The appearance of Tej Pratap Yadav at the event has sparked discussion over a possible reconciliation within the politically influential Yadav family.
Last year, Tej Pratap had effectively distanced himself from both the RJD and the family following differences with the leadership.
He later launched a separate political outfit named the Janshakti Janata Dal and contested the Bihar Assembly elections independently.
During that period, Tej Pratap had publicly accused individuals close to Tejashwi Yadav of betrayal.
However, relations between Tej Pratap and his parents appeared to improve following the elections.
Earlier this year, Lalu Prasad attended Tej Pratap’s traditional Dahi-Chura feast during Makar Sankranti and publicly blessed him.
Political observers now view Tej Pratap’s participation in Iraj’s birthday celebrations as another indication that tensions within the family may be easing.
Rohini Acharya Missing From Event
While most members of the family attended the gathering, Rohini Acharya remained absent.
Her absence comes months after reports of internal tensions within the family following the RJD’s defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections.
Rohini had previously alleged mistreatment by individuals close to Tejashwi Yadav, including RJD Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav.
Reports suggest she is currently in Singapore with her family.
