Patna: A farewell ceremony for the retiring Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Sangam Kumar Sahoo, was held at Shatabdi Hall on Thursday, bringing together judges, senior advocates, law officers and members of the legal fraternity to mark the conclusion of his judicial service.
The event was attended by the President of the Advocates’ Association, Yogesh Chandra Verma, Additional Advocate General Anjani Kumar, Government Pleader Prashant Pratap, and several judges and advocates. Members of Chief Justice Sahoo’s family were also present.
Reflections on Judicial Service
Addressing the gathering, Chief Justice Sahoo reflected on his tenure and experiences at the Patna High Court.
“Whatever was possible to achieve during these five months, I did. For me, this Court was not merely an office, but a temple,” he said.
He added that working alongside judges, advocates and court staff had been a rewarding experience and expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him during his tenure.
Colleagues Share Their Experiences
Justice Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, speaking at the ceremony, said that working with Chief Justice Sahoo had been a pleasant and enriching experience. Several other speakers also shared their observations and experiences, highlighting his professional conduct and contribution to the institution.
The ceremony concluded with tributes from members of the Bar and Bench, who wished the retiring Chief Justice well for the future.
Legal Career and Background
Born on January 5, 1964, Chief Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo completed his schooling at Nuabazar High School in Cuttack, Odisha. He later earned his I.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from Stewart Science College, Cuttack.
He enrolled with the Odisha State Bar Council on November 26, 1989, and began practising law with a focus on criminal and service matters.
Chief Justice Sahoo assumed office as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on January 7, 2026. His tenure concluded with the farewell ceremony held on the day of his retirement.
