Patna: The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Patna Regional Office, in collaboration with Bapu Tower, organised a special programme on Friday to mark World Environment Day. The event brought together environmentalists, academicians, students, government officials and cultural enthusiasts for a day of discussions, documentary screenings and musical performances focused on environmental conservation.

More than 100 people attended the programme held at Bapu Tower, reflecting growing public interest in sustainability and ecological preservation.

Programme Inaugurated by ICCR and Cultural Dignitaries

The event was inaugurated by Swadha Rizvi, IFS, Regional Director of ICCR Patna, and Neelam Chaudhary, retired IAS officer and noted Kathak exponent.

Bapu Tower Deputy Director Lalit Kumar was also present during the inauguration ceremony.

Speakers highlighted the importance of environmental awareness and collective responsibility towards protecting natural ecosystems.

Documentary Highlights Revival of Lakhandei River

A major attraction of the programme was the screening of Jab Nadi Jagi, a documentary directed by Dipesh Chandra.

The film documented the revival of the Lakhandei River in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district and showcased the collective efforts of local communities and stakeholders in restoring the river ecosystem.

Through real-life stories and field documentation, the documentary emphasised the ecological importance of rivers and the need for sustained conservation initiatives.

Experts Discuss Conservation and Community Participation

Following the screening, an exposition session featured noted archaeologist and Lakhandei River Sangharsh Samiti President Ramsharan Agrawal, author Asha Prabhat and social activist Prof Anand Kishore.

The speakers shared insights on river conservation, environmental protection, cultural heritage and community-driven ecological movements.

The discussion stressed the need for greater public participation in protecting natural resources and promoting environmental sustainability.

Classical Music Performance Adds Cultural Dimension

The cultural segment featured Saaz-e-Fiza, a semi-classical musical presentation by Rajeev Sinha and his group.

Inspired by nature, harmony and environmental balance, the performance blended music and artistic expression to complement the theme of World Environment Day.

The presentation received appreciation from the audience for its reflective and evocative portrayal of humanity’s connection with nature.

ICCR Reaffirms Commitment to Environmental Awareness

Organisers said the initiative reflects ICCR Patna’s commitment to promoting dialogue on important social and national issues through culture, arts and intellectual engagement.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and an appeal for greater public participation in environmental conservation efforts in line with the spirit of World Environment Day.
