Patna: The Bihar State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (BSFC) organised a tree plantation programme at its headquarters, Khadya Bhawan in Patna, on June 5 to mark World Environment Day.
The event focused on environmental conservation and promoting a greener future. Officials and staff members also took a pledge to protect the environment and appealed to citizens to plant more trees.
The programme began with the planting of saplings by Chief General Manager (Procurement) Mrityunjay Kumar and General Manager (General Administration) Vipin Kumar Yadav. Five saplings — Neem, Banyan, Ashoka, Gandharaj and Gulfarosh — were planted during the drive.
Officials Highlight Environmental Importance
Speaking on the occasion, Vipin Kumar Yadav said tree plantation plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance. He noted that trees contribute to the stability of rainfall patterns, helping ensure timely and adequate rainfall.
According to him, sufficient rainfall supports agricultural production and improves crop yields for farmers. Higher agricultural output, he said, facilitates the procurement of food grains and strengthens the supply chain for the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Link Between Environment and Food Security
Yadav said environmental conservation, agricultural productivity and food security are closely connected. He emphasised that tree plantation is important not only for protecting the environment but also for supporting food security and sustaining human life.
He urged people to participate actively in plantation drives and contribute to environmental conservation efforts.
Staff Members Participate
Several BSFC officials and employees attended the programme, including Deputy General Manager (Audit) Ashish Kumar, Manager Neeraj Kumar Sharma and Assistant (Purchase Branch) Ananjay Kumar Singh.
The plantation drive formed part of the corporation’s observance of World Environment Day and its efforts to encourage environmental awareness among employees and the wider community.
