Patna: Rain accompanied by strong winds brought respite from humid and sweltering conditions across several parts of Bihar in the evening, even as lightning strikes claimed at least four lives in separate incidents and left others injured.
Heavy rainfall was reported in Bagaha, while thunderstorms and showers also lashed districts including Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger, Katihar and Jamui. In the state capital, Patna, weather conditions changed dramatically in the evening as rain and gusty winds provided temporary relief from the heat.
The changing weather, however, came with a deadly toll.
Four Killed In Lightning Strikes
In Jamui district, 47-year-old Mahendra Yadav died after being struck by lightning in the Konan area under Sikandra police station limits late on Friday night. His death triggered mourning in the village, with family members reported to be inconsolable.
In neighbouring Munger district, a 50-year-old farmer identified as Ganesh Yadav was also killed in a lightning strike.
Another fatality was reported from Banka, where a young man died after being struck by lightning while preparations for a wedding ceremony were underway at a house. Several others were injured in the incident.
In Buxar district, an 11-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by lightning, while three other people sustained injuries.
Weather Department Issues Rain Alerts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for rainfall and thunderstorms in 12 districts of Bihar, warning of strong winds that could reach speeds of up to 60 kmph.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for 15 other districts.
Meteorologists said the state is currently witnessing highly variable weather conditions driven by pre-monsoon activity, with some areas receiving intense rainfall while others continue to experience severe heat and humidity.

Heatwave Conditions Persist In South Bihar
Despite the rainfall in several districts, weather officials have warned that there is unlikely to be significant relief from the heat in parts of South Bihar, including Patna.
Light cloud cover is expected in some areas, but temperatures could still rise by 1°C to 2°C over the coming days.
For the past several days, much of Bihar has been experiencing heatwave-like conditions. Humid winds have been affecting districts in eastern and northern Bihar, while southern and western regions continue to endure high temperatures.
According to meteorologists, increased atmospheric moisture and localised low-pressure systems are contributing to cloud formation, thunderstorms and sudden weather changes across the state.
Monsoon Expected Within Two Weeks
Weather experts said the current pattern is typical of the pre-monsoon period, when rising humidity and unstable atmospheric conditions often lead to thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall.
The southwest monsoon has already arrived in Kerala and is gradually advancing northwards.
Meteorologists believe that if its progress remains on schedule, the monsoon could reach Bihar within the next one to two weeks.
Traditionally, monsoon activity becomes established across the state during the second half of June.
Until then, officials have urged residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and take precautions against lightning, particularly in rural areas where such incidents remain a recurring hazard during the pre-monsoon season.
