Patna: An election affidavit submitted for the Bihar Legislative Council elections has provided detailed information about the education and declared assets of Nishant Kumar, the son of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, clarifying that he did not complete his engineering degree as previously believed.

Education Background

According to the affidavit, Nishant Kumar completed his Intermediate studies at Patna Science College in 1998. He later enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering programme in Computer Science at the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT Mesra).

The document states that he studied up to five semesters of the eight-semester course but did not complete the programme, bringing his academic tenure to an end in 2001. This disclosure confirms that he does not hold a formal engineering degree.

Financial Disclosures

The affidavit also outlines Nishant Kumar’s declared financial assets. He reportedly holds Rs 17,409 in cash. His savings and investments include a fixed deposit of Rs 72.22 lakh with the State Bank of India’s Boring Road branch and a Public Provident Fund account with Rs 48.87 lakh at the SBI Secretariat branch.

He has also invested over Rs 11 lakh in mutual funds and holds National Savings Certificates worth Rs 34.35 lakh through the post office.

Vehicles and Property Holdings

As per the declaration, he owns two vehicles—a 2016 model Hyundai Grand i10 and a Kia Seltos. The affidavit also notes that he does not possess any jewellery.

In terms of immovable assets, Nishant Kumar owns agricultural land in his ancestral village, a residential flat in Shiv Radhika Complex in Sheikhpura, Patna, and a plot in the PC Housing Society located in Kankarbagh.

Public Record Context

The affidavit has become part of the official electoral disclosure process for the Bihar Legislative Council elections, providing verified details about candidates’ backgrounds, education and financial positions.
