Patna: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday with a grand mass yoga session and enthusiastic participation from doctors, students, faculty members, staff and citizens.
More than 300 participants gathered at the institute stadium to take part in the event, which was organised in line with this year’s International Day of Yoga theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The programme focused on promoting healthy lifestyles, mental well-being and holistic health through regular yoga practice.
Senior Officials Attend Celebration
The event was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Umesh Kumar Bhadani, In-Charge Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Prof. (Dr.) Punam Prasad Bhadani, Dean (Academics), Prof. (Dr.) Prashant Kumar Singh, Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Kamlesh Jha, Faculty In-Charge of the Yoga Centre, along with senior faculty members and institute officials.
A message from Prof. (Brig.) Dr. Raju Agrawal, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Patna, was also shared during the programme. He described yoga as a timeless gift from India that supports physical vitality, mental resilience and overall well-being, and urged people to make it a part of their daily routine.
Yoga Is a Way of Life, Says AIIMS Official
Addressing participants, Prof. Bhadani said yoga is much more than physical exercise and represents a comprehensive way of life that promotes balance, wellness and inner harmony. He encouraged everyone to adopt regular yoga practice to improve both physical and mental health.
Participants performed various yoga asanas and pranayama exercises under expert guidance. The presence of people from different age groups, including children, women and senior citizens, reflected the inclusive spirit of this year’s theme.
Yoga Pakhwada Concludes
The International Yoga Day celebration also marked the conclusion of AIIMS Patna’s Yoga Pakhwada, which was observed from June 5 to June 20.
During the fortnight, the institute organised several awareness and creative activities, including a nukkad natak at the OPD foyer, drawing and painting competitions for children, yoga competitions and rangoli contests. Employees, students and their family members participated actively in the events.
Winners Honoured
Following the yoga session, AIIMS Patna organised a prize distribution ceremony to honour winners of various competitions conducted during the Yoga Pakhwada. Dignitaries congratulated the awardees and appreciated the contributions of all participants.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to make yoga an integral part of daily life and to spread awareness about its health benefits.
Officials said the successful observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga reaffirmed AIIMS Patna’s commitment to preventive healthcare, healthy living and holistic well-being.
