Patna: Passengers travelling on Bihar’s government buses may soon experience a more digital and convenient journey, with the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) planning to launch a new mobile application that will provide live bus tracking and online ticket booking facilities.
Named ‘Where Is My Bus’, the proposed application is expected to be launched in August. Once operational, it will allow passengers to track the real-time location of BSRTC buses, eliminating the uncertainty of waiting at bus stops without knowing when a bus will arrive.
Live Bus Tracking and Travel Information
The mobile application will function similarly to train tracking platforms, offering passengers instant access to a bus’s live location through their smartphones.
Apart from real-time tracking, users will also be able to check bus routes, fare details, departure timings, and other travel-related information with a single tap.
The digital platform is expected to improve travel planning for commuters across Bihar and make government bus services more accessible.
Online Ticket Booking Anytime
BSRTC also plans to integrate a complete online ticket booking system into the application.
Passengers will be able to reserve tickets 24 hours a day and make digital payments directly through the app. The facility is expected to benefit travellers commuting between Patna and other districts, while advance booking may help reduce last-minute inconvenience during peak travel periods.
Measures to Improve Bus Operations
Alongside passenger services, the initiative also seeks to improve operational discipline among bus drivers.
According to available information, designated bus stands and major stoppages across the state are being upgraded and officially marked. Once implemented, drivers will be required to halt buses only at authorised stops instead of making unscheduled stoppages.
Officials believe the move will improve passenger safety, streamline bus operations, and make boarding and deboarding more organised.
Tender Process to Begin Soon
BSRTC is expected to begin the tender process shortly for the development and operation of the application. Following the completion of the bidding process, an agency will be selected to implement and manage the digital platform.
Once launched, the ‘Where Is My Bus’ app is expected to mark another step towards modernising Bihar’s public transport system through technology-driven passenger services.
