Patna: Investigative agencies probing alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination have identified a fourth-year MBBS student as the alleged mastermind behind a network that is accused of deploying dummy candidates at three examination centres in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district.

According to investigators, Ravishankar, also known as Samrat Singh, a fourth-year MBBS student at Pawapuri Medical College, played a central role in organising the alleged examination fraud. The allegations are part of an ongoing investigation, and the claims have not yet been tested in court.

Network Allegedly Spanned Multiple States

Investigators allege that Ravishankar conspired with Pramod Kumar Yadav, who operated the agency responsible for biometric verification at the examination centres, along with several medical students, to arrange proxy candidates for the re-examination.

According to the investigation, the alleged network recruited medical students from Bihar as well as Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi to appear as dummy candidates.

Officials further allege that Ranjeet Kumar, a student at Pawapuri Medical College, and Arpit Singh, an MBBS student at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMCH), Gaya, assisted in recruiting candidates for the operation.

Three Examination Centres Under Scanner

The alleged irregularities surfaced during an investigation into three examination centres in Lakhisarai: Kendriya Vidyalaya Khagaur, High School Hasanpur and KRK High School.

Investigators said they are reconstructing the alleged conspiracy using documents, electronic evidence and witness statements collected from the centres.

According to sources associated with the investigation, the superintendents of the three examination centres have identified Ravishankar, alias Samrat Singh, as the principal conspirator in statements recorded by investigators. Authorities are also examining the alleged involvement of other individuals connected to the network.

Search For Accused Continues

Police said Ravishankar, alias Samrat Singh, Pramod Kumar Yadav and Ranjeet Kumar are currently absconding.

Raids are underway to trace and arrest the accused, while investigators are working to determine how many candidates may have appeared in the examination through proxy candidates allegedly arranged by the network.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and that further details may emerge as additional evidence is examined.
