Patna: The Bihar government has prepared a proposal worth nearly Rs 82 crore to upgrade key road infrastructure in Jehanabad and Arwal districts. The plan includes widening the Shakurabad–Kurtha road into a double-lane carriageway, rebuilding the Kendui–Murhara road and constructing a bypass around Shakurabad market to ease traffic congestion.
The Road Construction Department has forwarded the proposal to senior authorities for approval. Once sanctioned, the projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel time and support economic activity in the area.
Shakurabad–Kurtha Road to Be Widened
The largest component of the proposal is the widening of the 9.4-km Shakurabad–Kurtha road, which connects Jehanabad with neighbouring Arwal district.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 47 crore. Officials plan to convert the existing narrow road into a double-lane stretch to improve traffic movement and enhance road safety.
The road is currently in poor condition, with commuters frequently facing long traffic jams and delays due to its limited width and damaged surface.
Kendui–Murhara Road Set for Reconstruction
The proposal also includes the reconstruction of the 20-km Kendui–Murhara road in Ratni Faridpur block.
The project is expected to cost around Rs 35 crore. The road connects several villages to urban centres and has remained in poor condition for years, affecting daily commuters and local transport.
Officials expect the reconstruction to significantly improve connectivity for nearby villages.
New Bypass Planned Around Shakurabad Market
To address chronic traffic congestion in Shakurabad market, the department has proposed constructing a new bypass along the southern side of the town.
The existing market road is narrow and lined with shops, making it difficult for heavy vehicles to pass without causing lengthy traffic jams.
Once completed, the bypass will divert heavy vehicles away from the market area, easing congestion and improving safety for pedestrians, shoppers and local businesses.
Better Roads Expected to Benefit Farmers and Trade
The improved road network is expected to reduce travel time and lower fuel consumption for commuters and commercial vehicles.
The upgraded connectivity will also help farmers transport crops and vegetables to larger markets more efficiently, while making access to hospitals, schools and colleges easier for residents across the region.
The projects are expected to strengthen connectivity between Jehanabad and Arwal and support long-term economic growth after receiving administrative approval.
