Patna: The Meteorological Centre in Patna has issued an alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across parts of Bihar on June 30, alongside thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 50 km/h in some regions.
The warning indicates that weather conditions may turn severe in several districts, particularly in north Bihar, due to an active monsoon system affecting the region.
Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall Likely in North Bihar
According to the forecast, extremely heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in East Champaran, Gopalganj and West Champaran districts.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in isolated areas of Darbhanga, East Champaran, Madhubani, Sheohar, Sitamarhi and Vaishali districts.
Meteorologists have advised that these spells may lead to waterlogging and reduced visibility in low-lying areas.
Strong Winds and Thunderstorm Activity
The weather department has also forecast strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of the state.
Wind speeds may reach 40–50 km/h in south-central districts including Arwal, Bhojpur and Buxar.
In north-eastern and south-eastern districts, winds of 30–40 km/h are expected along with thunderstorm activity.
Officials have cautioned that lightning strikes may occur in isolated pockets during the period of intense weather activity.
Temperature Outlook Across Bihar
The forecast also outlines expected temperature ranges across different regions of the state:
North-West Bihar is likely to record maximum temperatures of 34–36°C and minimum of 24–26°C. North-Central Bihar may see 32–34°C and 26–28°C respectively.
North-East Bihar is expected to remain slightly cooler with maximum temperatures of 30–32°C. South-West, South-Central and South-East Bihar are likely to record maximum temperatures between 32–36°C.
Minimum temperatures across southern regions are expected to remain between 24–28°C.
Safety Advisory Issued by Authorities
The Meteorological Department has urged residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
People have been advised to seek shelter inside sturdy buildings during storms, avoid standing under trees or near electric poles, and stay away from open fields during lightning.
Authorities have also suggested securing weak structures against strong winds, unplugging electrical appliances during storms, and avoiding areas prone to flash floods or water accumulation.
